Sword

All the elements of the hilt are engraved and damascened in silver with volutes of flowers and fruits, serpents, grotesques and seraphs. On the blade next to the hilt there is the inscription “HANS”, and on the other side: “MOUM”. In 1641 Hans Moum was a councillor in the Fraternity of Sword-makers at Solingen in north-east Rhineland. The blade also bears the motto “INTER ARME [sic] SELENT LEG(ES)” (“In the midst of arms the laws are silent”). On the other side is the date 1622 and another inscription: “VIDE [sic] SED CUI VIDEM [sic].” “Fide sed cui vide” (“Trust, but mind who you trust”), a well-known proverb taken as a motto by the Electors of Saxony.
