The amateur photographer Joseph Eschenlohr (1886-1978) spent time in Nuremberg, among other places, between the 1930s and 1950s. On his travels, he captured the city in color slides. The photograph shows an exterior view of the synagogue at Hans-Sachs-Platz from the west, looking at the main facade. A small crowd has gathered at the fence in front of the building. The photograph was presumably taken in the early summer of 1938 and thus shortly before the demolition on August 10, 1938 by the National Socialists; slide frame inscription: "Nürnberg: Synagoge. 38."
