A Christmas crib powered by electric current, with five towers decorated in green, and additionally one small tower on each side, The crib won the third place in the Krakow Christmas crib competition in 1977.
The tradition of building Christmas cribs goes back to the 19th century. The Krakow crib has a number of characteristic features: a slender structure with several levels, towers, rich decoration and symbolic elements inspired by Krakow’s architecture. Cribs are typically made of lightweight materials. An indispensable element of the crib are the figurines and nativity scenes. The Christmas crib competition has been held since 1937, except during World War II when it was suspended. The competition was resumed in 1945, and it is now annually organised by the Historical Museum of the City of Krakow.
