Tobacco and Salt Museum
Sumida, Japan

This boat-shaped tobacco tray is said to have belonged to the House of Mori, one of the powerful daimyo (feudal lord). Various craftsmen joined in its making. The craftsman of joinery formed the shape of boat, and an expert of metalworking made the knobs and the roof of charcoal container which is shown at the center of the boat. The waves and wood grain are expressed by a maki-e artist. It is really gorgeous tray.
