Long Description: "The table echoes popular tables from the 17th and 18th centuries, although it follows the contemporary Empire style. Rising from the base is a carved and painted sea monster with a rising fluke. A black boy is standing on it. He is wearing gilded shoes and richly decorated shorts. Figures of black servants dressed in lavish clothes had been very much in vogue from the 17th century on. As such they had never been meant to merely play a decorative role but had always had a special function, such as supporting a table top, a candle or different sorts of vessel. This type of furniture was mostly produced in Venice." (Tatjana Štefanič, mag. Boštjan Roškar)
