Tairiiri. Fan. Composite tairiiri woven from kikau ou (young coconut leaf) with apuraka (giant swamp taro) akamanea (decorative) overlay, attached to a carved mauranga (handle) rakau (wooden) and lashed with dyred-red puru akari (coconut sennit). The blade is in shape of an inverted triangle. Overlaid dyed-red apuraka akamanea is slightly patara (serrated) in design. Plaited commencement at centre base of the blade. Woven out in check. Patara edges across all edges of the blade. Mostly natural colour with dyed-red overlaid strips of apuraka decorating the top of the blade. Faces of the blade are not identical as only one face is decorated with overlaid strips of apuraka. Blade is attached to a light natural coloured mauranga rakau and lashed at the centre base of the blade with cotton thread.
