Tan-background Samite with Confronted Birds in Floral Roundels Front

Museum of Ethnic Costumes, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology

Beijing, China

This is an isosceles-right-triangle-shaped fragment of tricolor weft-face samite. The well-arranged threads contribute to a soft feel. It has a natural palette with sage and brown patterns appearing on a tan ground. The simple yet quaint motifs are well-positioned, constituting a nicely-crowded composition. The uneven saw-toothed edges, characteristic of Central Asian silk fabrics, make this piece highly-decorative.
