Taquete with cloud and animal motifs

China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

The weave structure is a classic example of taquete, with a Z twist in both the warp and weft ends. The width of the pattern usually corresponds to the ancient measure, zhang (180.4 -216.1cm long, 95.2-107.1cm wide). The patterns are frequently copied from Han dynasty jin silk, with hand picked patterns repeated in the weft direction but not in the warp direction.
