Little Lulu first appeared in the "Saturday Evening Post" in 1935 when the magazine asked artist Marjorie Henderson Buell to create a cartoon to replace "Henry," a cartoon series heading off to newspaper syndication. Little Lulu debuted as a flower girl in a wedding strewing the aisle with banana peels instead of flower pedals. Lulu continued in the magazine until 1944. In 1950 Lulu began a 19-year run in syndication appearing in daily newspapers around the country. She also starred in comic books, theater shorts, television programs, advertising campaigns, and a variety of toys, dolls, consumer products. Lulu continued to appear occasionally in television and movies into the 1980s and 1990s.
