Teapot with stand

Although common today, multi-part tea sets were rarely made before the late 18th century. In fact, sets with matching trays were not readily available until the mid-19th century. Although the classical decoration of gadrooning (a rope-like border) and acanthus leaves is present on all parts of thes set, the tray was actually made three years before the tea service. This particular tray is unusually heavy, weighing over 379 troy ounces. It bears the arms of the 3rd Baron Rossmore.
