Biography:
New Zealand born, arriving in Australia in late 1987, Mark Baker spent 22 years working in Sydney. After a very short stint on staff at The Sydney Morning Herald, he joined Reuters News Agency (1988-2003), and then joined and remains at Associated Press, leaving Sydney in early 2009, for postings in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Bangkok. Mark moved to Christchurch in early 2017. He has covered coup d’états in Fiji, the New Zealand earthquake, Japan’s tsunami, and most recently the Mosque attacks in Christchurch, amongst many other news events in Asia. Mark has also covered six Olympic Games, six Winter Olympics, Rugby World Cups and world swimming and athletics championships around the globe. In 1996, he was a Walkley Best News Photo of the Year winner. In 2015, Mark was on the jury for World Press Photo.
