When young ladies married members of the Edo period shogunal or daimyo clan lord families, it was the custom to present them with a set of bridal furnishings, all gorgeously decorated in gold and silver maki-e. This bridal set created in maki-e lacquer with the kuyo crest, pine and tachibana mandarin orange designs include a tebako box fitted with twelve inner boxes, along with smaller boxes, comb cases, mirror stands, and mirror box. The principal items in the set are decorated with images from the Tale of Genji and the Tales of Ise, while the other items are decorated with pine and tachibana mandarin orange tree motifs. This bridal set was displayed at the exhibition and auction commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Heizando , held at the Tokyo Art Club in 1932. Today the set is split among the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art, the Tokyo National Museum, and other collections.
