Red and white cotton gingham sleeveless dress. There are two sashes sewn to the front seams that tie at the back center. The ribbon trimming the armholes and the square front is patterned with red hearts, green vines, and flowers and topped with white eyelet lace. There is a gathered pocket topped with eyelet lace on the left side and a patch of two white crossed racquets sewn to the center front. There is a white metal zipper down the back.

This red gingham with ruffle pinafore dress was made by a family friend, Marilyn Kosten (Little Miss Tennis), and was worn by Austin during her first appearance at the US Open. She competed as an unseeded amateur at age 15, advancing to the quarterfinals.
