The intensely expressive face depicts a mature male figure, with soft waves in his hair and beard. The hair, probably sculpted on the final layer of stucco applied, is high and voluminous, with large scrolls on the sides of the head and a large shell-shaped curl on the forehead. The mouth is well formed, with the upper lip left free of the large moustache, curled at the tips; the bushy eyebrows are formed by a series of engraved wavy lines. The eyes, without pupils, are wide open and slightly sunken, with the eyelids almost completely hidden by the ridge of the brow. The lips and ears bear traces of red colour, and slight remnants of a dark pigment can be seen on the beard, moustache and eyes.
