The Apostle Thomas

Unknownabout 1460–1470

The J. Paul Getty Museum

The J. Paul Getty Museum
Los Angeles, United States

The haloed figure is probably one from a group representing the Twelve Apostles. Typical of such representations, he is dressed in a tunic and cloak, carries a copy of the gospels, and holds a lance, an attribute for Saint Thomas the Apostle. This panel is one of two from the same series owned by the museum, the other shows Saint Philip.
