The Battle of Aboukir

Angelini faithfully translates the neoclassicism of Antoine-Jean Gros, creating a perfect copy of the painting the original painting by Gros commissioned to the French artist by Gioacchino Murat. The victory of the French army at Aboukir, which took place on July 25, 1799, is represented here as a celebration of that battle. Angelini facilitated the acquisition of artworks to increase the royal collection, but yet never received official commissions.
