The Breviary of Miranda - Breviary detail

Scriptorium compostelano

The Catedral de Santiago Foundation

The Catedral de Santiago Foundation
Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Illustrated manuscript from the early 15th century. It is named after its final owner in the 19th century, Pedro de Miranda, although it was originally associated with the family of Archbishop Rodrigo de Luna, who was prelate of the city between 1449 and 1460. It is considered one of the main sources of information on the ancient liturgy of Santiago de Compostela, and its "psalter" (collection of psalms) follows a particular version of the Mozarab tradition. Its miniatures also contain a great wealth of examples of initial letters and borders, based on the Castilian script of the time.
