The class president

Collezione Fondazione Cariparma
Parma, Italy

The beautiful child, with a sad and melancholy expression accentuated by the slightly reclined head, bears a dedication on the bust "To Giovannino Principe", that is to his friend Giovanni Guareschi, who had commissioned him a statue to decorate the funeral monument of his mother Maria Maghenzani, a primary school teacher. Froni had made two heads, the one of the "first of the class" and that of the mischievous "last of the class" and submitted them to his friend Giovannino. This sculpture, which shows the inscription "Il Capoclasse" on the base, is one of the tests carried out to identify the definitive model to be placed on the grave of the teacher.
