Gdańsk, Poland

A winter view of Długie Pobrzeże in Gdańsk. The buildings of Długie Pobrzeże, with the dominating form of the Crane visible on the right, line the ice-covered Motława river. The Crane, a medieval gate-crane, is a symbol of the city's role as a port. The author of the painting came from Berlin, but spent many years in Gdańsk as a professor at the Technische Hochschule (today's Technical University of Gdańsk).
