Description: When The Debutante was first shown at the eighth and final Impressionist exhibition in 1886, critic Paul Adam deemed it “a perfect caricature of a bourgeois woman.” Years later, in 1904, Forain published a satirical drawing after The Debutante in the second volume of La Comédie parisienne with the caption, “But what do you intend to do with yourself?”
