In "The Empire of Flora", one of the most outstanding works of 17th century French painting, Nicolas Poussin represents the garden of the flower goddess, she herself dancing at the center, surrounded by figures, which - according to the Metamorphoses, by the classical Roman poet Ovid - would be transformed into flowers at death.
