'The Envelope' is a humorous ballet by David Parsons, on music by Gioachino Rossini. It can be seen as a light-hearted view on the fascination with paper in a modern world, but also as a struggle to rid oneself of a letter with bad news. The dancers - wearing caps and glasses - wriggle in all sorts of bends, in order to pass on the envelope or to make it disappear; much to the dancers' grief, the envelope keeps appearing persistently. They try hard to remain cool and give a composed impression, while actually their blood is boiling. Everyone is afraid of the envelope. The choreographer has indulged himself in this work full of choreographic jokes, developed from everyday positions or walks, human pyramids and parodies on the classical dance.
