The Expedition 33/34 prime and backup crewmembers raised the flags of the United States, Russia and Kazakhstan October 11, 2012 in traditional ceremonies outside their Cosmonaut Hotel crew quarters in Baikonur, Kazakhstan. From left to right are prime Expedition 33/34 Flight Engineer Kevin Ford of NASA and his backup, NASA’s Chris Cassidy, prime Soyuz Commander Oleg Novitskiy and prime Flight Engineer Evgeny Tarelkin, and backup Flight Engineer Alexander Misurkin and backup Soyuz Commander Pavel Vinogradov. Ford, Novitskiy and Tarelkin are scheduled to launch October 23 in their Soyuz TMA-06 spacecraft for a five-month mission on the International Space Station.
