The group of sculptures were originally a part of a larger scene of the Crucifixion of Christ on an altarpiece. Until the Second World War, the relief was located in the Haapsalu Cathedral. After the Secon World War, its location was unknown for a long time and only later it was revealed that, for decades. Since 2004, the work has been back in the Haapsalu Cathedral.
