The flying machine

Of all Leonardo da Vinci's inventions, the "Flying Machine" is certainly the one that has left the greatest impression on the modern world. He sketched numerous studies of hinged wings, sails and structures. The major difficulty for all these machines was of course producing sufficient power. This condemned these drawings, despite being the premonitions of a genius, to remain simply a visionary artist’s very beautiful variations on a utopian theme.
