The Genealogy of the Royal Family Compiled by the Office of Royal Household

This royal genealogy of Joseon was published by the office of royal household. It is the only royal genealogy to record the relatives of the king, the queen and the crown princess. The King’s book writes down to the 9th descendants on the king’s father’s side and 6th descendants on the mother’s side while the Queen’s book records within the third cousin on the queen’s father’s side and less than second cousin on the mother’s side. Each page was divided into ten parts with a red line and on the first segment, king’s writing was written. Vertical writing represents the flow of generation and each segment contains the gender, name and public title of the person. It was first recorded in 1472 (year 2 of Seongjong) and was revised every three years. Jangseogak currently holds 380 books.
