The General Electric Company's Aircraft Gas Turbine Division reached two milestones recently and took the opportunity to announce them at the company's monthly meeting of the board of directors held here. First, GE had become the world's largest known jet engine manufacturing plant, where the majority of engines are produced, hired its 10,000th employee. The remainder of the company's J-47 output is produced at the Lynn, Mass., plant. Stanley South (above right) of Hamilton, Ohio, became the 10,000th employee and was singled out for congratulations by Ralph J. Cordiner, GE President, when board members toured the plant. C.W. Mr. LaPierre said the present peak payroll of 10,000 persons will probably increase to over 12,000 within the next twelve months. Among the Air Force planes powered by the J-47 engines are Boeing's six engine stratojet bomber, and North American's F-86 Sabrejets which have racked up a 15 to 1 kill ratio over Russians built MIGs in Korea.
