The great battle between Rama and Ravana

The folio portrays the decisive moment very carefully. After having tried other weapons Rama draws from his quiver the arrow that was given to him by Brahma. He aims it at the demon king Ravana to annihilate him. Ravana's death was now inevitable. The ten headed and twenty armed Ravana stands wounded. Many of his severed hands lay scattered around. He has been portrayed as a king in his royal costume - a crown as also his donkey head. His many heads are a testament to his vast knowledge and his twenty arms to his great prowess. The donkey head is symbolic that his immense intelligence still made him a slave of his worldly passions. He is being attacked by monkeys and bears who have clubs in their hands. One monkey, clearly discernable as Hanuman wears orange drawers and a crown with a lotus flower. He is attacking Ravana and has been able to tear out one of his hands. The two brothers, Rama and Lakshmana, are dressed as princes, wearing lotus crowns and Vijayantimalas. Rama's sets his bow with the crescent shaped arrow to annihilate Ravana.
