The Grotto at Old Wardour Castle was built in 1792 by Josiah Lane of Tisbury. Constructed in tufa limestone, it has a number of entrances to the enclosed tunnels and is dotted with rocky niches. It was created as part of a scheme to landscape pleasure gardens at the castle.
