Neema Nyakundi is a 17-year-old Kenyan whose passions and interests lay in music, writing, Afrofeminism,
and art. In the past, her photography and visual art have solely been either academic or for
therapy and self-expression, but she now hopes to grow and make the influence of her artwork more
purpose-filled and driven. Her collection captures happy and positive portraits or landscapes of people of different genders to highlight the physical and social differences that they may have and contribute to communities, which reflect their varied vulnerabilities to climate change and its effects. The positive outlook in these art pieces attempts to acknowledge and appreciate these differences while also spotlighting the growing necessity for increased accessibility of different genders to the impacts of a natural hazard, to ensure these differences are healthily celebrated. Hopefully, the artworks will also underscore connections between ecofeminism and Afrofeminism.
