150 million years ago, many shellfish like bivalve molluscs, snails and crabs lived at the bottom of the sea, pretty much as they do today. Not all marine animals, however, seem to have flourished in the Tendaguru region. Only few fossilised ammonites and brachiopods were found in Eastern Africa, common as they were in other locations.
