In 1501, mining entrepreneur Matthäus Landauer (d. 1515) established Nuremberg's second "Zwölfbrüderhaus," a home for elderly, indigent craftsmen. The foundation was dissolved in 1806 and the building was used from 1835 onwards for the Royal School of Arts and Crafts and as an exhibition hall for parts of the city's art collections.
