The Danish schooner 'Mathilde' sailed around Hong Kong in the 1840s and 50s. There is a record of her arrival in San Francisco in 1847, probably with immigrants from Guangdong Province on board.

- Transcript:'MATILDE' A label on the reverse gives the names of G.F.Th. Raben, Apenrade [modern Aabenraa], with the date 1855, and C. Guldager. Another label has a Danish inscription (partly legible) translated as follows: 'On August 8th 1855 information was received from Canton that the Aabenraa schooner Matilde has been lost… outside the Yangtze River after losing a mast in a ferocious storm… Shanghai 1/8 1855 - the Danish schooner ran ashore on the northern embankment on the way from Ningbo to Hong Kong during a storm…'Hide TranscriptShow Transcript
