The medieval hoist

Since Antiquity, the squirrel wheel enables the rise of heavy object, using animal or human forces. The operator walks inside the wheel, provoques a continuous and increased movement. Leonardo da Vinci observed it during the building of Florence's cupola. He will use the concept later, in several hoist systems.
