  • Critic's Note: 'Oldies,' 'technique,' 'variation' and 'formation' have played an internally motivating role in the work of Suk Chul Joo. In his work, the traditional technique he was taught by the masters of Korean art encompasses both the 'Oldies' to know and the 'Technique' to practice. Nonetheless, on the foundation provided by 'Oldies' and 'Technique,' 'Variation' has been a process by which the artist has established his individual artistic voice, and 'Formation' is the completion of this activity. His continual experiments have now been expanded to the virtual world via reality and nature. Accordingly, his artistic journey, work motivated not by stability or settlement but by creation and transition, must be understood not only through individual works but also in a comprehensive manner.
