The Mighty Angel and John Forbidden to Write

Unknownabout 1255–1260

And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud, and a rainbow was on its head, and its face was like the sun, and its feet like pillars of fire. And it had in its hand a little book open: and it set its right foot on the sea, and its left foot on the earth.(Apocalypse 10:1-2)

Just as Saint John prepares to record the voices of the seven thunders seen at the upper right, another voice from heaven tells John not to write. In the miniature, the voice appears as an angel who actually pulls the pen from Saint John's right hand.
