Even though Línea de Nazca may seem to be yet another look at the Peruvian coastline, this video is, actually, a reflection on perception. The ways of seeing and the ways of allowing oneself to be seen are presented in this piece as starting points for various reflections and questionings into the materiality of the landscape, while speculating on the need to go against the grain of the touristic perception of the pre-Hispanic lines of Nazca – a “fictitious” perception insofar as it is constructed. In light of these premises, Línea de Nazca is based on the horizontal filming of the line and the landscape from the road, from a vantage point from which the Nazca lines (that is, the linear pre-Hispanic vestiges) are not seen, and yet they influence the perception in various ways, between what is seen and what one desires to see.
