The Piazza San Marco, Venice

Sickert visited Venice several times during his career. He was inspired by the Italian city’s architecture and beauty like many other artists, including his one-time teacher James McNeill Whistler (1834 – 1903). The focus of Sickert’s drawing is the Clock Tower in the distance that was completed in 1499.
