Maria Ioan, born Csergedy, was the wife of Teodor Ioan, a large landowner and senator from Ploiești. The young woman is wearing a black dress with double ruffles decorated with palmettes and lace, and a black velvet necklace adorned with an oval gold pendant. The black tiara completes the hairstyle and the gold pendant earrings emphasize her elegance. The model displays a distinguished figure, animated by a discreet smile, with piercing eyes, bold eyes, arched eyebrows and sensual lips. Her rich black hair is tied back in braids, held back by a black headband above her head, accentuating the height of her forehead. She wears gold pendant earrings typical of the late Biedermeier era. The jewelry, the brooch with the earrings, is probably the work of a Viennese workshop.
