English princess and descendant of the Romanovs, Queen Marie of Romania (1875-1938) was fully involved in Romania's efforts during the Great War, becoming a symbol of the war fought for reunification. Queen Marie is depicted in a golden dress over which she is wearing a mantle encrusted with semi-precious stones. Its border is decorated with wheat ears and with the emblems of all the Romanian provinces. The Queen's lavish attire is complemented by her Cartier diamond necklace, a gift from her husband.
