Marmolada and Latemar: the “black swans” of the Dolomites. They are formed by calcareous rocks instead of dolomite. The different geological composition allowed them to conserve very rich fossil faunas, known since the1800. This sample represents the holotype, which means the sample the scientific description of the specimen Longobardites zsigmondyi (a cephalopod mollusk) has been based on. There are also the Aplococeras avisianum and Parakellnerites tothpletzi; they are cephalopods as well.
