The Secret Commonwealth

The title page of a manuscript copy of The Secret Commonwealth by the Reverend Robert Kirk, Minister of Aberfoyle. This eccentric compilation of traditions concerning fairies, elves, ghosts, witchcraft, and second sight was eventually published by Sir Walter Scott in 1815. This manuscript, dating from 1692, is part of theLaing Collection of Scottish literary and historical papers.
