Emergency reduced edition of The Suffragette newspaper, 2 May 1913. The headline 'RAIDED!!' refers to the arrest of five suffragettes after a police raid at a Women's Social and Political Union headquarters at Lincoln's Inn House. The five suffragettes who led union departments were taken into custody at Bow Street police station. Harriet Kerr, Beatrice Saunders, Rachel Barrett, Miss Lennox and Alice Lake were all charged with conspiracy to cause wilful damage to property. During the raid, police also confiscated material being set up in type for that day's issue of the paper. 'The Suffragette' newspaper was set up in 1912 as the mouthpiece of the WSPU. On several occasions the Home Office attempted to suppress the paper, and readership was also affected by police intimidation of stockists.
