Chanchal Mukherjee's artworks play with shadows and light, fantasy and fact, dreams and ethereal beauty. Many of his paintings focus on gently drawn faces with big and expressive eyes. His brushstrokes modulate the colours, which allows forms to emerge with great ease. He extrapolates with textures, employing the titanium white of acrylic paints as base coat brushed on with palette knife, creating an exciting play of surfaces. The artist also dabbles in sculpture.
Chanchal Mukherjee has exhibited widely in India. Some of his artworks are in collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art and Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi and in private collections in the United States and Japan, including the Glenbarra Foundation.
