The Transfiguration. Early 17th c. The monumental icon comes from the church of the Saviour at Galatas in Constantinople, and its shape suggests it was designed for a pointed tympanum in the church. Its stylistic features associate the work with workshops on Mount Athos that followed the Cretan tradition. H. 1.45 m., W. 1.30 m. (ΓΕ 2982)
