The paper leaf is printed with a line engraving in brown entitled, 'A View of the Trial of Warren Hastings, Esq., at Westminster Hall'. Published as the Act directs by Cock & Co., No. 36, Snow Hill, Sept. 22nd 1788.' The background is engraved with a diaper pattern and embroidered with sequins and metal thread.
Warren Hastings (1732 - 1818) was the first Governor General of India (1773-85). He was unjustly accused of corruption in relation to dealings with Indian rulers in 1787 and subsequently impeached. The trial that followed lasted until 1795 when he was eventually acquitted.
