Wilma Rudolph (left) and Lucinda Williams (center) represented the US, and Carlota Gooden (right) represented Panama at the Pan American Games hosted at Soldier Field. Rudolph and Williams were teammates in Tennessee State University’s famed Tigerbelles program. A year after the Chicago Pan Am Games, Rudolph and Williams would win gold at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome.
