This is the General Electric Company's latest turbojet engine, the same size as the company's present battle-tested jets but far more powerful. Designated the J-47-GE-21, and first of the Advanced J-47 services, it is designed for advanced military aircraft. Although its power could not be revealed, it puts out far more thrust than current J-47 engines, rated in excess of 5,200 pounds, in Air Force planes. R.O. Miller, project engineer, examines the nose section. Some accessories, housed in the nose in present engines, have been placed underneath to provide greater air inlet area to the compressor. GE engineers said the compressor combines high air flews, high pressure ratios and high efficiency with a minimum number of stages. The engine is 36.75 inches in diameter and is 146 inches long.
