Of the wars waged between the peoples of the Morea and the Athenians; translated from the Greek for Francesco di Soldo Strozzi of Florence ... In Venice, near Gabriel Giolito de 'Ferrari, 1564.
Appreciated translation of the stories of Thucydides by Francesco Strozzi, published for the first time in 1545 in Venice by Vincenzo Valgrisi. Inside, the plague that struck Athens during the second year of the Peloponnesian War (430 BC) is documented, of which the historian narrates the spread, investigates the probable causes and describes with scrupulous precision the symptoms and effects. In this way, he recalls Thucydides, “whoever comes after me, considering everything, if ever he finds himself in similar cases, will be warned, nor completely ignorant” (pp. 103-104). The specimen comes from the library of the Jesuit Professed House and arrived in the National Library following the law of 1873 which extended the previous 1866 legislation on the suppression of religious corporations to Rome.
