Opened in spring 2009, the new Yankee Stadium, in the Bronx, New York, is home to the New York Yankees baseball team. The stadium replaces the former Yankee Stadium, across the street, built in 1923. The stadium cost 1.5 billion dollars and encounted much controversy in regards to the allocation of city funds to help with its construction. The Yankees are arguably the most recognizable and most popular baseball team in the world and their continued popularity, as well as that of American baseball, is guaranteed. The donor attended a game in May, 2009, just about a month after the new stadium opened.
